Intend Compassion

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.
~Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama

We can set the same intention and we do not have to paint a broad canvas. Opportunities exist each day within the scope of our normal lives to practice compassion and loving kindness. And although you’d never know it from the evening news which thrives on the extraordinary and the shocking, random compassionate acts may be so common that they are rarely newsworthy.

Just as we need to be aware when we make unwholesome choices, we need to be vigilant and catch the kindnesses, too. It is wholesome to see our Buddha nature; only then can we connect with it in others.
