The Brahma Viharas (or the Four Immeasurables) are some of the oldest known meditations from the Buddhist tradition and are labeled: lovingkindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. These practices are not only attitudes or internal states, they are also practices for living our lives in a more loving, grounded, and blissful way.
Most of us experience some anxiety, anger, envy, despondency, and other debilitating moods that disempower our hearts. In this workshop, we will explore ways of cultivating the heart-based practices of the Brahma Viharas to help us get beyond these negative emotions.
The basis of this approach is the embodied goodwill presented in the ancient texts and living lineage of Theravada Buddhism. By learning to use these powerful tools, we can change our internal state and also have a positive ripple effect out in the world.
This workshop will include lecture and instruction, meditation sessions, and time for Q&A.
