This a reminder that the second gathering of the Workshops in Basic Buddhism series will be held on Saturday March 20th beginning at 9:00 am to 1:00 p.m. at the Life Force Arts Foundation, 3148 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago just east of Ashland on Lincoln.

2010 Workshops in Buddhism Announced

In collaboration with Liberation Park, Insight Chicago will host a series of half-day workshops in 2010 exploring the core teachings of Buddhism. Local teacher Santikaro will will lead these explorations. The purpose of this series is to provide a working foundation in the central teachings of Buddhism in order to guide the practice of mindfulness and cultivation of the middle way. The workshop format will include a silent sitting, short talks, exercises, and small group work.

Registration for Dec 5th Day of Mindfulness Now Open

Registration has now opened for our Dec 5th day of mindfulness.

Deb Wright will lead a day of mindfulness for us at the Life Force Arts Center. Parking on streets or in lot on W. Barry (cheaper) between Lincoln and Ashland. Bring your zafu, zabuton, and lunch (fridge space is limited). Chairs, teas, water will be provided.

ABOUT DEB WRIGHT

Deb is a graduate of the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies Advanced Study and Practice Program and long time practitioner in the vipassana tradition. “I’ve always had a curiosity about how the world works and been a keen observer, so twenty years ago, when I discovered Jack Kornfield’s A Path with Heart as part of a trans-personal psychology course, I realized that Buddhism offered the methodology that I was seeking. The Buddha offered insight into the essential nature of existence and how to live skillfully and in peace with whatever we experience in the present moment. My thinking and teaching emphasis is on the integration of practice into lay life, how to BE the practice rather than practicing the practice.”

Sangha Business Meeting Oct 24

An Insight Chicago sangha business meeting will be held Saturday Oct 24th from 9:30am to 11:30am. Committed practitioners who have time to help with board activities are invited to join. Please contact Greg (glg222(at)gmail.com) to RSVP.

Our agenda for this meeting will focus on how best to take advantage of Santikaro’s proposal for a 2010 teaching schedule. We need to decide on topics for his discussions and find resources to organize and host the events.

Cheri Maples visits Insight Chicago Oct 26, 27

Teacher Cheri Maples will be visiting our weekly sitting groups – Monday October 26 at the Ravenswood location (brad.potts1(at)gmail.com) and Tuesday October 27 at the Downtown-Lakeside (glg222(at)gmail.com) location. The sits will start promptly at 7:00 pm. Please try to arrive a few minutes early. All are welcome.

Cheri runs the Center for Mindfulness and Justice. She leads mindfulness retreats and classes and efforts on how to incorporate timebanking with prison education and reintegration. In 2008, Cheri Maples was ordained as a Dharma Teacher by Zen master & peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh.
