Single residential spaces have opened up for the Insight Chicago spring retreat with Santikaro. This is a four day retreat (ThursdayApril 26th to Sunday April 29th). It will be Santikaro’s first retreat in Chicago since recovering from his recent illness. We are please to return to the Portiuncula Center in Frankfort. The Port offers a secluded, peaceful environment with wooded hiking trails and a small creek. It is an ideal natural environment for the solitude required in a retreat setting.

We will meet on the north side of Chicago on the second Saturday of May, June, July and August. Sessions will include meditation, talks, and discussion. Readings will be made available in advance with additional sutta readings recommended at the end of each session.

The next Insight Chicago meditation class will be in the fall. In the mean time, most of the Insight Chicago sitting groups offer meditation instruction before each sit. Contact the group leader for scheduling at time.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, Santikaro served in the Peace Corps in Thailand for over four years. He was ordained as a Theravada Bhikkhu in 1985 and spent most of his monastic life at Suan Mokkh. Santikaro lived with Ajahn Buddhadasa for nine years and became his primary translator. During this time he also led Dawn Kiam, a small monastic community for foreigners. He is the founder of Liberation Park, a modern expression of Buddhist practice, study, and social responsibility, located in rural southwestern Wisconsin.
