Registration is now open for the fall retreat with Donald Rothburg at Portiuncula in Frankfort, IL from Oct 28th to Oct 31st.

Donald Rothberg, PhD, has practiced insight and metta meditation since 1976. A long-time organizer and teacher for the Buddhist Peace Fellowship, he is the guiding teacher for Spirit Rock’s The Path of Engagement program. He taught socially engaged spirituality, Buddhism and transpersonal psychology at Saybrook Graduate School for 18 years. Donald is the author of The Engaged Spiritual Life: A Buddhist Approach to Transforming Ourselves and the World.

Insight Chicago will be hosting a day of mindfulness on June 5th, lead by Dhamma teacher Cheri Maples. The event will be at the Fourth Presbyterian Church near the loop from 9am to 4pm. May 1st Workshop: The Foundations of Mindfulness

This a reminder that the third gathering of the Workshops in Basic Buddhism series will be held on Saturday May 1st at the Life Force Arts Foundation, 3148 N. Lincoln Ave in Chicago, just east of Ashland on Lincoln. The workshop will be from 9am to 1pm. Following lunch, there will be an optional mindfulness practice session (sitting and walking) from 2pm – 4:30pm, with opportunities for teacher interviews.

2010 Workshops in Buddhism Announced

In collaboration with Liberation Park, Insight Chicago will host a series of half-day workshops in 2010 exploring the core teachings of Buddhism. Local teacher Santikaro will will lead these explorations. The purpose of this series is to provide a working foundation in the central teachings of Buddhism in order to guide the practice of mindfulness and cultivation of the middle way. The workshop format will include a silent sitting, short talks, exercises, and small group work.

Registration for Dec 5th Day of Mindfulness Now Open

Registration has now opened for our Dec 5th day of mindfulness.

Deb Wright will lead a day of mindfulness for us at the Life Force Arts Center. Parking on streets or in lot on W. Barry (cheaper) between Lincoln and Ashland. Bring your zafu, zabuton, and lunch (fridge space is limited). Chairs, teas, water will be provided.

ABOUT DEB WRIGHT

Deb is a graduate of the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies Advanced Study and Practice Program and long time practitioner in the vipassana tradition. “I’ve always had a curiosity about how the world works and been a keen observer, so twenty years ago, when I discovered Jack Kornfield’s A Path with Heart as part of a trans-personal psychology course, I realized that Buddhism offered the methodology that I was seeking. The Buddha offered insight into the essential nature of existence and how to live skillfully and in peace with whatever we experience in the present moment. My thinking and teaching emphasis is on the integration of practice into lay life, how to BE the practice rather than practicing the practice.”
